Day 67: We Work Because Our Hope Is In The Great Healer:
"We work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers." —1 Timothy 4:9-10
As an English teacher, the writing style of today's lesson was what caught my attention even more than the story Anderson shared. The pacing of the text matched the intensity of the situation that was being described, namely an emergency room situation in which Anderson and his team had to revive a man whose heart had stopped. Though they were able to save the man, Anderson gives credit to God stating, "I am proud to be a part of a group of Christian health professionals who understand that God is the one who ultimately heals. We're just blessed to be his hands and feet—occasionally used to carry out his healing work—and we're blessed that he utilizes our gifts for his glory."
At the end of the lesson he states, "If God ever calls you to use CPR, just remember that 100 chest compressions per minute is the same rate and rhythm as the Bee Gee's song 'Stayin' Alive.'" Good to know, I thought.
The true purpose of today's lesson is to get us to consider "where in [our] sphere of influence is God able to use the gifts he has given us for his purpose and his glory?"
...I am still thinking this one through.
